Just flipped the calendar

Doing a bit of organizing tonight (i know...twice in one year....what am I thinking?).

Flipped the calendar over to see what February had in store for us. And as luck would have it. There are 8 days without anything written in the square. Whatever will we do with our free time?

I shouldnt speak too quickly....or I should knock on my noggin....cause I'm sure somebody will find something to put in my squares....

Kids had a blast tonight at Skate with the North Stars (basically a money grab from the parents..) I was fortunate enough not to attend. Shipped the kids with others....while I worked out...and cleaned up. DH off to Maymont for a rec game. Hopefully he took pics for you.

Tomorrow night hockey game at 5:45...Saturday hockey from 9-12, Sunday both boys play at 9:15....wish us luck.

dooms day

Okay..the weather has already been talked about ...but this is nuts...day two of -55...really? Only two more days of this...then I'm going to lose it and book a warm holiday...with somebody elses visa card.

Okay...weigh day today. (cheated a bit and weighed myself mid week and was down 2 pounds...). Got excited and weighed myself this morning. Nada. Down 0 now. So I am still down 6 pounds...but having to gear up if I'm gonna make my goal.

so...now that the truck isnt running and we are living off canned goods...gonna have to find some low sodium/low fat/low taste canned goods in the back of the closet somewhere...

it wasnt a phase

C-man is back!! It wasnt just a good minute or two...he has now had two full days of eating everything (i mean everything) in sight. More than I've seen him eat in a long long time.

If it wasnt so blasted cold, I would have to go out and get more groceries. Literally eating canned goods, like we've been holed up for months.

DH just called and for the first time in his 19 year history with the railroad, western canada has been forced to halt their trains. So, he is getting in a cab (hopefully they are running today) to come home. Longest trip in history is about to end. we think. The message came straight from the top he says...too freakin cold.

Well...if the railways not working...pretty sure hell has frozen over....and I can damn well do whatever I want.....right?

Anywhoo....C-man is back!!! Ate his usual 3 bowls of cereal and was hungry an hour later....he has that "glimmer" back in his eyes and has started fighting with his brother....yeah!!!!

So...we went out to tackle the driveway. Snow was over our boots....but we did it. Its done....until the neighbors snow blows back in....

DH has had the worst road trip ever...drove to Biggar last night about 1am, then jumped on a train that wasn't working properly. Took them about 8 hours to reach Wainwright ...when he was supposed to be going all the way to Edmonton. So, he's having a quick sleep and then they are either going to send him to Edmonton....or back to Biggar....hopefully he'll be back by the weekend.

i have serious unresolved issues...

Sunday....big day. B event. Win or go home.

We were playing Rosetown at 9:30....and after playing a great tourney so far....we were ready. Or, so we thought. Right from the puck drop...our team did not look prepared. Did not look ready to bring their A game. Nothing against our opposition...they played well....but we did not play our best and it was disappointing to say the least. We ended up losing 4-2. So....we went home.

Thats when I started to pout....(to myself). I apparently have not lost the will to win. Hate hate hate to lose. I try to control myself...but then it rears its ugly head. (especially when we havent played to our ability). But...there I go again..."we" ....its not "we" its the kids. They had a great time...but mama hates to lose. (this is why I dont particularly like board games or card games either....I'm not a good loser....) You'd think in my old age it would subside....maybe when I'm 80.

DH says I'm the true hockey mom...you know pitbull with lipstick....I would tend to agree....except I only wear lipstick on special occasions.

quick update from the rink

Done our first game. Played ML (the team that kicked our butts at their tourney)..

Retzky played amazing (probably one of his best games this year). Scored his three goals in the first five minutes (one of them right off the opening face off) and played great defence.

Unfortunately the other ringers, couldnt score. We were up 3-0, then lost 6-4. The kids played a way better game than last weekend.

Now...we are up against Wainwright at 6:45....will keep ya posted..

back to normal?

Just tried calling RUH to talk to mom tonight...and apparently she was discharged at 4:00. Not because she is better...nope. Not because she was supposed to...nope. (Talked to fam this morning and she was to be in for another night). Apparently sent her home at 4 cause they needed her bed. Sent her home hooked up to tubes and whatnots...??? Love the health care system. Hopefully all goes well at home....good thing for Auntie Velvis.

I was at work all day today...a gruelling 5.5 hours. Then...our awesome buddies had us over for supper...the kitchen bitch was at his finest....great meal....great company. Too bad DH had to miss it. (this means he should make it home for Retzkys game(s) tomorrow??)

Gearing up for the tourney. We play Meadow Lake and Wainwright in our pool. ML squashed us last time, so hopefully we can have a good game....not sure what Wainwright is like. C-man will definitely not be playing. Still having a rough go....95% of the day he is good...the other 5% he screams like somebody is stabbing his throat....nice.

So...looking forward grandma and grandpa golfer to have a visit and a sleepover....must go clean house....

mamas mama

Quick trip to the city...was just that.

Got in about noonish, dropped C-man off to grandparents. I drove around RUH parking lot for 20 minutes (not exaggerating) and finally found a parking spot.

Found my mom (and the rest of her entourage) and stayed for a couple of hours while she dozed in and out. Had a little visit with dad, sister and bro in law. Mom seems to be doing well, in some pain and wants a smoke!!

After that went to get the little man who wasnt drinking for grandma...like he was supposed to. Went to costco (got an awesome bathing suit for $20!!) and back home. On the way home....he cried most of the way in pain and last night was no exception....screamed for most of the night in pain. I am hoping that this is what the doctors meant by a "relapse caused by the scab falling off"....so we drugged him up and he seems to be doing 100% better today. (has been outside sledding and playing hockey).....

so....no more hospital shtuff ok....family???

heading into the city

Now...C-man and I are off to the city again today...and back to a hospital!! Dropping the youngin off to grandparents, while I go to RUH to visit my mama after her surgery.

She is set to be out of surgery around 11ish...so I am aiming to be there by noon.

There doesnt seem to be a storm today, and its nice and balmy out, so why not go for a drive? Plus, might get a costco run in!!

weigh day

Okay...weighed myself this morning and I am down another 2 lbs!!! Yeah!!

Although its much easier putting the weight on...its nice to see those numbers going down.

Goal this week...another 2 pounds...and staying away from rink treats....with Retzkys tourney coming up it will be a challenge.

what the?

Guess I should make lists more often. After two garbage bags and about 3 hours, my office is fully functional. Plus, I have a good head start on income tax crap. yep...a head start.....that is until I wait until the last possible day to take it to " our guy".

Second thing on that list....I have 4 things hanging on my walls now. Count em...4.....also bought a stud finder so DH has no more excuses. But...he still has a few up his sleeve.

Oh yes...bought and spray painted registers for the upstairs. But have ran into a bit of a snag with the bathroom fan thingy .....not sure how we are going to fix that one....

not bad for a monday

C-man had a good night last night, which I am very thankful for because I slept through one of my alarms to give him tylenol (reminds me of sleeping through breast feeding....which people told me I would instantly wake up for ???)

He woke up asking for ham, and has since had his meat, some yogurt and some cantaloupe. Lookin good.

I am off to get some errands done before I turn on my work computer.....I could "go in" but DH doesnt have the same discipline as I do when it comes to making the youngin drink. He has to drink at least 1 cup an hour and when he's left on his own to do it....just doesnt happen.

Retzky had a good game yesterday in Radisson and they won 9-4 against a mixture of towns. Got three goals, then played defence the rest of the game. Missed out helping the Atom team and we didnt get a call to help in playoffs, so I'm pretty sure they didnt make it any further. Not sure who won the tourney....

I just completed getting my paperwork organized. At least as much as its going to be without making a trip to Wally world tomorrow....

Should make my taxes go a little more smoothly (last year a bit of a procrastination nightmare)....

While C-man is fast asleep (nicely drugged) and Retzky is off with his novice team, I am making a list. Cause thats what I do.

Pretty sure the team that R-dog helped out yesterday in our Atom tourney isnt going to make it to playoffs this afternoon, so hockey should be done for the weekend.

Here is what I have on my list to do thus far (thus...heeeeheee).

1)Buy registers for my upstairs and put them in.
2) Finish a few things in my main bath (fan cover, light, and light switch)
3) Hang some pictures finally (bought a stud finder!!)
4) Organize my financial papers (must start tax sh*t!!)

I can accomplish these four things cause I will be at home nursing our youngest back to health....and oh yeah, working from home.

C-man got the one tooth pulled at the hospital and R-dog had another fall out last night....gotta hit the ATM for tonight the boys are hauling in the dough. (my hard earned dough!!)

C-mans surgery

Sorry for the delay. Got back yesterday from the surgery and we are just trying to keep up with the kleenex and tylenol.

The surgery went well. He did not seem to be scared and didnt cry. The only thing he did not want to do was wear the hospital pj's. THEY WERE TOO UGLY. Once that was settled he did good.

The anesthesiologist had to pull out his loose tooth for him while in surgery - so he has no front teeth right now. When we went into the recovery room he was snoring really loud and slept for a good two hours after.

When he woke up he ate jello, ice cream, milkshakes, pancakes and a pb and j sandwich (thanks grandma)....

Yesterday, with no morphine was a bit tougher....he didnt eat a thing nor did he want to drink....so we were forcing him to do that.

He has eaten yogurt already this morning and he's drinking better, so seems to be on the mend. Thanks to everybody for their emails and calls and gifts etc etc....super nice of y'all!!

An even bigger thank you to the grandparents...they were/ARE a huge help!!! love ya!!

weigh day

Okay...today is d-day....weighed myself and I am exactly the same as last week. So still at minus 4 pounds. I consider myself lucky as I had three days of no excercise and two days of rink food. At least I didnt gain anything.

This week I am aiming for two pounds. Going to be at the hospital....so hopefully the hospital food is not very tasty and I will be pacing a lot to get my excercise in.

somethings gotta give

No post yesterday. DH was ridiculously sick. I think he slept for almost 24 hours straight, got up to have a drink, then went back to bed. Poor guy is not feeling good. Then, got called to work this morning in the blizzard. nice.

C-man is feeling better...so much so I sent him to school today. I went into work this morning, but decided to work from home this afternoon. This way, I can try and get the house cleaned before The grandparents get here.

I am doing quite well on my resolutions. I have had 2.5 diet cokes, neither of which was sooooo satisfying that I had to have more. But, if I'm going to keep trying to do this weight loss thing, I think I might have to add the occasional one in....keeps me from late afternoon snacking. Weigh in tomorrow...even with the two full days of rink food, I should be ok....

Tonight, Retzkys got practise, and we are going to pack for our trip to the city. I think we are leaving weds nightish....and be home friday afternoonish....depending on schedules (DH's and grandparents).

ML tourney

We are back...after a very long day yesterday.

Up and not really at 'er at 5am, on the road at six and on the ice at 8. We played our first game against M.L. (the stronger of two teams). And I think a combination of early morning, new rink, shakey legs got the better of us. We were kicked....had we played our best game, we may still have been beat....but they got beat pretty good.

The second game - they learned their lesson. Worked really hard and won.

Third game, they also won!! R-dog had a great tourney- alot of goals, but even more assists. All three games he worked his butt off...although I think he's already worked on that....

C-man is still mad at me for not letting him play. He seems to hit that cold air, then a coughing fit ensues....I think he is getting better....but didnt want to risk it. So, for now, I am the worst mommy ever (again). He did end up getting a trophy (as he is an affiliate)...so that made things a bit better.

Tonight R-dog had a late game...7:15-8:45. He had to help out his Atom team. They played really well and beat the other team 8-2 (the first time they have beat them this year). Retzky played defence...very well...and he also carried the puck in, deaked (sp?) the defence, faked a shot at the goalie and then went five-hole to score.....pretty excited.

C-man had a nap, and actually looked like he was getting some color back in his cheeks. So, we are taking him to Meadow Lake in the morning...but he probably wont be playing. 99% sure he wont be playing until 6 of our players get hurt...or something silly like that...

So...tonight...I am cutting cantaloupe, packing sandwiches, grapes, juice boxes and getting ready for the early trip. DH doesnt think he will make it back on time...so we are taking the gus guzzling truck. Good thing gas is cheap and we are rich...

Wish me luck getting up at 5 and actually functioning....talk soon...

the rest of the week

Okay...last night at my canteen shift...C-man fell asleep on the stool at the rink....left my shift early and he is staying home from school- again. He will be better by thursday...that is my mission....OJ and sleep.

Tonight Retzky has his Atom practise, and I have a lady coming over for a curtain consult..?? we'll see.

Friday Atom game at 7:15, then saturday is our early morning-leaving for Meadow Lake.

Sunday - game at 10...then another out of towner at 2:00.

The xmas break was nice...but I'm sorta enjoying having hockey back...and so are the kids. Ask me again in a couple of months.

drs office

Just got off the phone with my drs office. Rude. RUde. RUDE. They are very inflexible and unwilling to talk to you...or should I say listen to you. They also gave me some information that turns out to be false after I called my Ear Nose and Throat doctor.

The worst part is...no other place in town is accepting new patients....and if we drive out of town to another doctor...does it mean that they arent very good if they are accepting new patients?

Anywhoo...my E/N/T dr told me not to really worry about his having a cold as most kids with this type of surgery are sick all the time. AND...that they have to be pretty sick for them not to do the surgery. Also...said that if he had to go on antibiotics that they would still go ahead with the surgery (contrary to what my dr's office said).

So...for now....we are just waiting and hoping he gets better before thursday. He wont be going to anymore hockey and he wont be going to school tomorrow. He will have to come to canteen duty with me tonight, and to the Meadow Lake tourney this weekend...but other than that we are just going to keep it low key.

resolutions and more...

Quick update on my resolutions.

A week has gone by and I did not drink a diet coke. Until yesterday. Its not like I absolutely craved one, but I just wanted a drink that wasnt water (at work...there isnt much choice). It was not as good as I remembered. So, I'm pretty sure I'm done with it....thats it.....or at least thats it with a once in a while stirred in....

The other resolution was to "get back on track"....which, we have said a lot unfortunately. BUT this time I meant it. Weighed myself this morning and I am down 4 pounds!!! yahooooo (I'm pretty sure it was the 4 I gained in Dec...but at least they are coming off). DH weighed himself and he is down 3...although last night was hockey and you have to have a few beer after hockey....so not sure what the final number was.

C-man is still not feeling well. Fell asleep on the couch yesterday at 5....slept until 7:30 this am. Going to phone the drs office today...although I dont have a lot of faith in what they have been saying.

One more day until school.....

Only one more sleep....yeah!! The older boy has started to get a little bored at home...so I think the routine will be a good thing.

The younger one slept from 6:30 last night until about 8 this morning...no fever...but now he is really congested. oh boy ...the countdown is on now until the 17th. Everybody keep your fingers crossed for us that he is well enough to have this surgery....thanks.

Yesterday, Retzkys game went really well. They played a girls team that is mixed with Atom/Novice girls and they kicked butt. I think it was 8-3 which is good, because I think the girls have been winning most of their games, so it was nice to give them some competition. Today they are playing the Bruins. DH managed to have the morning off to go...I have home with my sicky...

This afternoon they are off to the bowlarama for a birthday party....C-mans going to try it...at least its not cold air blowing down his lungs....we'll see how it goes....so I better run to get a present....ttyl...

Party

Well...C-mans party went good yesterday. Except one thing....he was sick.

The rest of the crew went sledding (while he sat and watched at the top of the hill with his dad...mostly), then played Wii, foozball (sp?), mini stick hockey, ate cake and opened presents.

Last night...fever hit...this morning we are missing hockey...again. He is hot to the touch and has a sore throat and cough...says he feels like he could upchuck. nice.

The worst part is that he has to be feeling good in order for him to have his surgery on the 17th. This better be through his system before then. Keep your fingers crossed.

On another note....day 5 of resolutions. Havent touched a diet coke. Ready to pull my hair out and go postal on somebody...but other than that REALLY F@#*ing good. hahaha... Treadmill every am at 7 (not quite my goal of 6...but still pretty good...yes thats AM). DH has been doing good too...

So...sending Retzky off with his coach to play this morning as I cant bring C-man along and I will clean up after the big party. DH should be back later today from his trip.

new years resolutions

I hate making them. Even worse, hate sticking to them.

But I am going to this year.

#1. No more diet coke. Yes...I said it.....
#2. Back on track with treadmill and eating habits.

Those are my only two. So....with the majority of the house renos behind us...its time. I could be a wee bit crabby without my caffeine and without crappy food....but we are going to try.

Big B'day

My little man is all growed up. He's 6 today, and loving every minute of it.

He's the little devil, that is charming, social, competitive, helpful and did I say charming?

We spent a part of the day snowmobiling up at the cabin and the rest back home watching movies and eating McD's (his choice....not ours). Good thing too....cause tomorrow its back on track day.
