You have got to try the salsas that my cuz posted in the previous posts' comments.
The one in particular, is really intriguing. At first, my gut instinct said "dont even think about putting this stuff in your mouth"....but after I tried it was very surprised.
Honestly, it is the weirdest looking stuff...but so so flavorful. If you like a bit spicier snack food....this has a good mix of sweet and spicey...and no fat!!
Give it a try...you'll love it.
I'm also getting ready to spring clean my windows...I will let you know how that works out....any one else has any "green" ideas...please share!!

earth hour
I am starting to get a bit more "green" in my old age.
Really trying to do a few small things. I am recycling more, turning off lights, keeping the heat down (much to the dismay of anyone who visits), trying to use chemical free cleaners more....and now this.
I am going to participate in earth hour....tonight at 8pm....we are going to shut off our lights for one hour...and also anything else electrical that we dont "need".
I encourage you to do the same....pull out the candles and the board games, or that book you havent had a chance to get into yet.

we're home...
A little bit tired, a lot full, and smiles on our faces.
Went into the city Thursday night. The main reason was to visit family and a few friends....and attend a big retirement bash for DH's mom. Secondary reason was to shop until I dropped.
The visiting was great. GnD were amazing hosts and put up with a lot. And we didnt even have our boys. (thanks to my mom and dad!!) And the surprise party went amazingly well. She was truly surprised....which doesnt happen often. There was a program and a slide show and incredible food.
Then the four of us (GnD, DH and me....) went back to Martensville for some drinkies...had our fill and walked home. I only mention this, because I happened to be wearing my new 3 inch heels....walked home about 8 blocks in the dark, and bumpy road....DH put me on his shoulders for a bit, then had to haul me over a chain link fence to get home.....classy....
The shopping was also good....bought 2 pairs of jeans (which I usually cant find)....2 pairs of shoes.....4 tops...and a spring jacket!! DH also managed to get some goods....I gotta take care of 'da man.
So...now we are back home, nursing ourselves back to health with water water and more water. And weaning the kids off sugar.

spa morning...
I had been looking forward to yesterday for some time. A "spa" morning with one of my "oldest" friends.
We were meeting halfway in Unity, she is getting a pedi, me a mani.
It was really, i think, about visiting without children in the background. There is no doubt that her and I can visit. Rarely is there a lull in our conversation. She is truly one of my friends that we can go months without talking, but pick right back up where we started with no uneasiness.
She has been a truly good friend since we were just out of diapers, I'm sure. And it is so nice to steal some time like this away from other responsibilities.
So...off we go. Did not recommend this place, unfortunately. It was sorta like chinese torture. I told her i had a cut on my hand....which she then dumps three of four chemicals on ....and while my skin is on fire....she hacks at it with a metal tool. Might as well have put shoots under my nails.
After she is done with my mild torture....off she goes on Crazy Mama...who had never had a more painful experience in her life. I guess there is a reason, why its in the old cop shop....I think we were in the experimental torture room.
Once that was over....we headed out to lunch....great restaurant....great food....and we look at our watches and cant believe how much time has flown!!
Next time....we meet in Stoon....for shopping and pedi's the right way, ok?

another one bites the dust...
Nope..not talking about someone getting married.
Just got done another book. This one lent to me by crazy cuz.
John Daly autobiographical (look at that big word!!)....something about in and out of the rough...too lazy to go upstairs and find the exact title.
Started it yesterday at 5, done by 9. Easy read...interesting facts....DH just started on it today.
Recommended...by moi.

third day...
The third day of our whirlwind tour, landed us in Viking, AB. Yee haw....
We miss our "soul mates" and would love to see them more often. This time we were determined to drink all the wine, rum, and whatever we could get our hands on to make asses of ourselves. Not quite how it went, being that Uncle H got everybody sick,,,heehee.
We did get to play some guitar hero...we rock!! and some Kaiser....we got our butts whooped....has the ace been played yet??
Great time was had by all...I hope....hospitality was amazing.
Then...we tried to drive home through a mini blizzard....crazy weather until we got to SK....then the skies parted, and the sun shone. Its nice to be home.
Easter bunny did come!!!
saturday...
On our second day, of whirlwind holidays, we had on our itinerary.....Cochin Ocean.
Again,,,we had lots of fun. Got to see the cousins new pad on the hill...great view and great yard.
We got to celebrate DH's moms something something birthday. We got to have some great food and drinks with friends and family and have some laughs. Also had "the incident" from the boy....which will be talked about for awhile. Unfortunately, wont be talked about on the blog.
wow wow wow
We are only 2 days into holidays and what a great time we are having already.
Friday we went to my mom and dads. Whirlwind trip....again. Got to see almost all of the fam, had the camera...but forgot to take pictures.
Except these ones...which might get me into trouble!! Grandma and mommy J said no.....I felt like Auntie Velvis....sneaking into the room...to take these....heeheehee

slacking off...
I know I havent been updating as much as we'd all like (ok...just my dad)....but get this.....I HAD TO WORK EVERY DAY THIS WEEK....and...like...ALL day....i know.
Painful, really. But I guess that lottery ticket still hasnt been cashed in, so off to work I go.
Basketball camp on tuesday went good for Retzky...got a new t-shirt and was pretty happy about that. I found out that DH was a goon at hockey the night before from a couple of the dads. nothing new there.
Wednesday we had a house full of kids after school, so back yard hockey in the mud and the muck was the story of the hour. That, and I made DH move furniture around in the basement. Trying to make it bigger somehow....which didnt work. I almost got the sledgehammer out to start knocking shit down...but decided against it, until I talk to some one who knows what the hell they are doing.
Today, after working ridiculously long (until 5:30!!!!), we came home to get a few groceries, beer and take out. Now the kids are out playing-you guessed it-hockey....and I am trying to figure out how the hell we are going to stay sane this week.
DH and I have holidays at the same time....whew....and she's gonna be a whirlwind week.....hang on to your undies.....

weekends over...
I guess I didnt post Monday...cause the weekend was crazy....so here goes.
Saturday was C-mans tourney. I was there from 8am-until 8pm with a small break to take in Retzkys game. C played alright the first game....he says he didnt get his three goals, cause he had to play good defence you know. Then, right after his first game, we took him to play with his Novice team. They played pretty well and won handily...
Then...as DH took them home to be fed and watered, I headed back to the rink to help out as needed. Guess thats what my job was (until the moola came in). They came back a bit early to run around and buy tickets and eat junk food. (Isnt that what tournaments are all about?) The second game was about 4:30 and he played a bit better and got all three goals.
Good thing DH was home, as the kids trotted home with him, while I helped clean up all the leftover beer.
Sunday, Retzky had his final game. They were losing 3-0, came back and tied it up going into the third. They ended up winning 9-6....and probably the best game I've seen him play all year.....it was nice to see.
While we were doing that, C-man left with our buddies out to the ski hill, as Initiation rented the tubing hill for the afternoon. Sad I had to miss it, but DH was working......he sounded like he had a good time.
Then to finish off the weekend, I was dealing with the money money money from the tournament...which if most of you know my dealings with money.....is a little daunting....hehehe....(evil laugh)

small tasks
Today, is a small "to do list" day. The kids dont have school, so I am at home babysitting our little buddy. And trying to do work at the same time. It will only work for a couple of hours, then I am going to have to burn some energy off them. I think one of the rinks is open for skating.
So, I have to do a bunch of running around for C-mans hockey tourney this weekend. I'm in charge of a few things (like deposits, getting bristol board, paper plates etc etc), and of course, wouldnt want to do them too early. Why would I do that??
Tonight is C-mans last practise...yea!!! Then I'm in charge of gathering some moola for coaches gifts as well.
We will be running, or in the vehicle...because apparently a lynx was spotted in town yesterday-in someones yard!! So, hopefully the kitty will make his way back to the river. Good to know after letting my oldest walk home alone from the bus.

bad to the bone....
R-dog had a bad day.
First, he got sent to the principals office. First time. (Or so he tells us, anyway). Apparently, he rammed a kids head into the fence when they were trying to get the soccer ball. He says he slipped on the ice and it was an accident. There was no stitches needed, thank goodness and away he went.
Second, I had the nerve to pack him a HUGE lunch...and didnt I know that it was PITA day. (I paid for it last week...am I supposed to remember everything???)
Third, he has to re-write a math test. His teacher calls is a "fail" but he got 71%....in my day anything in the seventies dealing with math was pretty good. This teacher demands more. I guess have a good understanding of it, before you move on, right?
Then last-but I'm sure not least....I made the worst supper ever. I'm used to this one. This one he hated so much, he only had three heaping plates full. I'm the worst.
No school for C-man again tomorrow...and no school at all friday....Parent Teacher Interviews. Both kids report cards were really good. So, hopefully no surprises when I get in there....

been on a book kick lately..
So...have been reading a lot lately. Its one of two addictions for me....reading or eating...lately I guess it hasnt been an either or....
I first read Lipstick Jungle...its an ok, easy read...more for the beach...and have about 6 more of Louise's books to go. The second one (also from the library of Louise) was a Hells Angels tell all...it was gritty, sickening, and too many names/details and not enough story...
Now...I am going to have to hunt down some parenting advice books...Any suggestions for me on how to discuss the birds and the bees (age appropriate???) They have been bringing home some great phrases...and I need to discuss with them...but not in too much detail....
Suggestions anyone?

for the grandparents.
Novice game this morning-both kids played.
Score 6-5 for the opposition. We were winning by 2 going into the third period...and lost it. Retzky was playing defence, but still managed 2 goals. C-man didnt get any goals, but had some great passes.
Then, Atom coach asked the older one to stay and help with the game.
They lost 7-2. Retzky got one of the two goals.
There is the hockey update for the weekend...only 3 ice times left.

share a story
On the way into the city this afternoon, R-dog decided to tell us a story. Went something like this.
You know, when we are at ______________ (insert friends name here)...there bird, Tweety will sit on your shoulder. Then it walks all the way down and bites your nipples.
WHAT?
Yeah...walks all the way down and bites your nipples.
I was driving, so I let up off the gas and turned around to see him touching his hand.
Oh, I think you mean knuckles, right?
Oh yeah...Tweety walks all the way down your arm and bites your knuckles.
Sure gives a whole new meaning to "knuckle sandwich"...doesnt it????

you have to see it to believe it
We have a little sleepwalker in our home.
You really have to be on your toes and listening for him...or you could be in big trouble. He only sleepwalks when he has to go to the bathroom. The unfortunate part, is that although he is awake enough to get out of the bed, he has no idea where the bathroom is.
I have caught him undressing in the kitchen, the hallway, the living room and my bedroom....and trust me...if you dont pick him up and rush him to the toilet....you will pay for it.
Then, he does his business, talks some form of sleepwalker-swahili and back to his bedroom.
The next morning he is none the wiser. So, when I hang up on you there could be a good explanation for that....must catch the sleep-pee'er.

hump day
Is officially over....thank goodness!!
For some reason....C-man decided to wake up on the wrong side of bed this morning...and let me know about his foul mood....ALL DAY LONG....so went to bed a little earlier tonight...hopefully that will solve the problem
Thank goodness for Louise...she mentioned to me tonight that the kids have a play tomorrow and need to dress up like farmers??? I guess that note never quite made it home, so I am trying to scrounge something up tonight. Guess its better than first thing in the morning..
Took the boys skating, as per our wednesday schedule, and managed to get very little work done. So tomorrow, I am heading "in" and hopefully will get a lot done, as I would like to take off friday to the funeral back in K-town. We will see how that goes, still need to find somewhere or someone to watch C-man if that happens.
Guess I better round up that costume, get lunches made (plan to feed them tomorrow), and get my work attire sorted out....that way I may make it in before noon.

real funny
DH has been laughing at me all day long.
I'm walking like I just got off a wild buckin bronco....
Tried a new workout tape last night...cant sit, cant stand, cant move too fast. Everything is sore...feels like I am a battered woman. And today was only day one...its usually worse on day 2. Lucky me.
Sat at work today...got shit from a crazy, insane woman who used to be my boss. She gives me some form of grief everyday that I am "in" even though she is no longer my boss. The others at the bank think its really funny....they like when I am around as I take the "heat off" them....really its getting old.
Retzky had his first day at basketball camp...he had a smile the whole time. Then, when I asked if he liked it, he replied "NO I HATE MISSING HOCKEY"....so next week he will go to hockey practise instead. Its his last one...yeah!!!
Thinking about asking my boss for easter week off....might head up to the cabin for a day or two....possibly go see the crooked trees (we have been meaning to go since we moved here)....or to the city for a few days....should know tomorrow if DH gets the holiday or not....

Where has the weekend gone?
I'm pretty sure that the government should make long weekends mandatory. They go wayy too fast.
Saturday...both boys had games (same time, different rinks). DH was home, so it worked out good. (I had to sneak out and purchase my drivers license...whoops!!....but caught all of Retzkys game)
The game went well...but as a team didnt play as well as they can. They ended up losing 6-4 (i think?) ....then he got asked to help out his Atom team....so we jumped home for a quick 15 minute lunch...and back to the rink.
There, he played alright (looked maybe a bit tired)...but their team ended up winning 5-4.
Thought DH was going to get in a nap....since he worked all night....got home at 8am....and didnt sleep....but instead had some friends pop over for beer and pizza....needless to say it was a pretty early night.
Sunday...both boys got to play on the Novice team as C-man didnt have a scheduled game. They played really well and won 6-3 (i think). R-dog got his 3 goals, then went back on defense and played really well defensively...even had a couple of blocked shots!! C-man played alright...but really tentatively again. Almost like one of the kids is giving him a hard time. Not sure, but he'll get it figured out.
So....this week....Monday-kids have no school....then we have our last canteen time. Tuesday-hockey practise, and R-dog starts his basketball camp. Weds - a whole lotta nothing...yeah!!! Thursday-hockey Friday-hockey (might skip out to attend a supper in Stoon...we will see how it works out)
Now..I am back to the laundry room...wish me luck
