Its getting to be the theme...mommy dearest

Today, I was very thankful.

Thankful both boys were in school. I had a hair appointment and a tanning appointment. Wonderful. I was taking some well deserved "me time" which doesnt always work out the way I planned.

So...when I had a bit of time to kill before I ventured into work (at noonish)...I went shopping. Left the cell phone behind. Big mistake.

Forgot to send lunches with the kids. School phoned, teacher phoned, panicked children phoned, DH phoned - from Watrous. I didnt know a thing. Until I got to work at about noon thirty....."So...did you bring your kids a lunch?".....oh crap......You have never seen my little old legs run as fast as they did down the street....to the new truck....and to the school (thank goodness their was pizza at the bank today)

I pull up to see the oldest playing soccer....when he spots me....he gives me the fist and says ...no screams...."I"M STAAAARRVVINGG!!"....so so so so sorry...eat some pizza (there is about 10 minutes left of noon hour).

The youngest one was a little more forgiving.....but the guilt got the best of me and to apologize I took them to the restaurant of their choice.....DQ.

Mama better get her shit together.

about that kind of day

Big prayers go out to Grandpa B....just got out of surgery today....we will wish him all the best.

Tonight, after work, I went for groceries, mail ....you know little errands that needed to be done. DH was home and was going to take R-dog to hockey. So, I get home and was surprised to see them still here. DH was taking a bit longer than anticipated, so I left groceries and ran him to the rink. rush rush

Get to the rink only to find out that practise had been cancelled (third practise this week) because of league finals (i think)...so we rush rushed back.

Then, I sent DH and the boys off to soccer registration. Find out tonight the price has tripled since we last had them in....yes I said tripled (from two years ago)....nice.....and we also find out that R-dog plays Mon/Weds and C-man plays Tues/Thurs....so I guess my May-end of June is going to be busy...Mon-Thursday busy. nice.

So...hockey should wind up about March 16th....Basketball starts for R-dog March 4th (slight overlap)....then soccer starts April 28th (which just happens to be the last week of basketball).

We did say only one sport/season....but not sure when we are going to find time for swimming lessons....we usually do that in spring so that we dont have to do it in the summer.....might just have to take holidays around Brightsand lessons.

Now when to find the time to golf?

Havent done a list in awhile...and needed to get some stuff off my chest...so hear goes..

Things I hate right now....

1) Almost killing my mom (food poisoning...dont ask)

2) Any insurance form, insurance company, insurance anything

3) Income tax season (i think I'm getting a rash)

4) Winter (i have sadd...no shit)

5)Salespeople

6) Housecleaning, laundry, dishes, dirty windows etc

7) Not being my age, but looking 10 years younger.

Okay...I said it....now I'm good....back to insurance forms....think I might have poisoned someone else now...

last day...

Its the last day, of our new rule. No snacking rule.

And, the kids have never loved their mommy's cooking as they have the last few days. My chicken is delicious....my ribs are devine.....they even loved potatoes...

So....if they make it through today......they are allowed one ONE one snack after school....not a continuous stream of snacking until meal time.

I am not going in to work today, DH is "positive" he'll be working shortly...which means he wont get called in. So the kids and I are planning to do some sledding in the am, and skating in the pm. (by this I mean...the kids will be having fun, while I am taking the dog for a walk and running bleachers at the civic centre)

Oh yes...our new vehicle is awesome....amazing....wonderful. I am having a hard time spending the money and having a "car payment" which we havent had in a very long time. Dont get me wrong...we've had other payments....we just dont spend a lot of dough on our cars. Our "new" vehicle is a 2003 Toyota Highlander with 56000 kliks on it....and is mint condition on the inside (for now). I will take a picture of it once I save up enough money to buy batteries for my camera!! heehee

Seinfeld meets Mommy Dearest...

What a beautiful evening. Think we'll go for a family stroll. Get the dog out (thats twice today!!) Get our hearts pumping (since hockey was cancelled...boo hiss)

It was a good hour for the whole dang family....up hills, through trees, visiting neighbors.

Then...the worst thing that could happen.

We stumbled on to the path of about 10 rabid deer. Maniacal...if that is a word. Being that I'm such a brave soul, I hid behind my 6 year old, whilst screaming at my husband and dog .....nice.

Sid had a great run...the deer put on a jumping and running display.....and I hid behind my son and felt really stupid.

I gotta get over my fear of wildlife.

first day of the new rule

Instituted the new rule yesterday.

Heard complaining from the youngest all morning...so I tried to keep him busy. (oh yeah...finally took the "hippy" for a long overdue haircut)

Heard complaining from the school....okay not quite....and I packed him a ginormous lunch. Still, after school he had a melt down screaming at me to have a snack.

I stuck to my guns. Told the kids I did not want to hear about food....just how their day went. Went pretty well, since we had company over for supper.

Supper time came...and both boys had 2 huge plates of food....and R-dog had 3 bowls of fruit salad for dessert.

I think it worked....we'll see how today goes...

mama had a meltdown...

Completely, honestly had a core meltdown last night.

This is how my day went. From about 8:00am until 8:00pm...thats when I lost it.

I'm hungry
Can I have a snack?
Whens lunch?
Can we have a treat?
Whens supper?
Can I have ________________ (insert food there)?

This went on literally every five minutes ....even after eating, breakfast, lunch and dinner. So...at supper time I made them eat a ridiculous amount of food. The youngest one said he was full before his plate was empty...so I made him sit there and eat...It was really quite a production and went on for at least 15 minutes. "i'm soooo fulll....reallly....I wont be hungry".

Bad mommy that I am...I made him stay until he was done.

Sure as shit...both of them 15 minutes after supper....."Whats for bedtime snack?"

So...I snapped....

Today...no snacks. period. We are going to eat meals. aaarrrggghhhh

Okay...so for months now I have been bragging about the amount of deer we see from our awesome new pad.

Tonight...a car stopped outside my front windows. I thought..."you perv!!" Stop looking in my windows!! (still no curtains....if you want to donate to the curtain fund...please call). Instead I see that he has stopped to admire 5 DEER in my front yard and 2 in my back!!!

Yippee....so I grab my camera - cause I always say I'm going to take a picture.....I tried from my bedroom window......here is the result.

So, then being the brave soul that I am.....I stepped outside on my deck (in just my housecoat after a bath...)....with a hockey stick in one hand and my camera in the other. Two rabid deer are standing right beside DH's truck!!!! I couldnt get much closer....hope you like my shots....

total eclipse of the heart

Wow...did you get to see it last night? It was amazing....the lunar eclipse that is. Hope the boys got to see it at grandmas....it was a sight.

Did have the best seat in the house...with an amazing view. And, it was a total eclipse of the heart....cause I miss the boys. Crazy...how I can miss them soo soo soo much, but about an hour after they get home....and start fighting.....I'm looking for places to ship them off..

bday bliss

After not seeing the boys for a few days, we were anxious to get into the city to get them.

Then, we had vehicle issues again. AAAARRRRGBBHHHHHH

So...I had to wait until DH got home around 2:30....then I headed in alone. Missed my bday lunch.....

When I got there....my youngest ran down the long hall way with big hugs and kisses and told me how much he missed me and loved me....and then never left my side. aaaahhhhhhh

My oldest couldnt leave the computer long enough to say Hi. Once we pryed him off...he gave me a little hug and said he missed me. aaaahhhhhh

Couldnt stay long, then we turned around and headed home. They only fought for about 15 minutes, then C-man fell asleep....so Retzky fought with me instead. aaaaahhhhhhh

Last night, DH cooked a lovely steak dinner....then left for hockey. Me, I fell asleep on the couch. what a party animal...

one day without my boyz

It was really only one full day with out my two monkeys.

I had grand visions of things getting done. Of me dancing around the house, hair flowing in the wind. Of gourmet meals and adult television shows.

Aahhh the life.

Well...I managed to do a lot of painting (except those damn closet doors) and did a few reno things. I did not dance around the house...instead I walked aimlessly through Wal-mart sorta like a lost puppy. My gourmet meals consisted of taco time for lunch and macaroni salad for supper.

and it was oooohhhh sooooo quiet. I miss those little buggers.

Today, my little buddy I babysit and I are going to the big metropolis to get those boys and hopefully make it home in time for practise...off we go!!!

reading old posts

I've been back over some of my older posts, and I used to be a lot funnier. Or, our lives did.

Now...the boys questions are a lot more serious and a lot more grown up.

Today, Retzky asked "Was it really hard for you and daddy when you first got married" gulp.

And C-mans questions "Is God brown?", and "What did Jesus make?" oh yes....not to be out done by a penis question "Why does my thing shake when I have to pee?"

I'm getting too old for this shtuff.....

Pretty slow start to our day....both C-man and I have sore throats...so this will be the test.....to see how quickly he will get over it....???

Trying to do a bit of cleaning before G gets here with her boys....I will try to remember to take pictures of the little fellas before they go....they are growing up quickly (well...one a little faster than the other...;))

Then, we have hockey tonight, two tomorrow and two sunday....

Happy Valentines Day everybody!!!

Last night was an early night for everybody. Too cold to go outside, too tired to do anything inside.

DH pulled in this morning at 6am when he thought he should be home shortly after midnight....problems with the train or something....not sure as I am a little delirious at that time of the day, and so was he.

Today...the kids have hot dog day, Valentines parties, hockey practise and basketball registration....so tonight I guess we have to leave the house.

I am just heading "in" to work....so talk to y'all later....

Awesome dudes!!

The concert rocked last night. Really really good.

Tom Cochrane and Red Rider - rocked. Plus, I knew all the words to all the songs....that never happens. (okay they many not have been the RIGHT words...but I sang just as loud!!)

And JOHN COUGAR (if that is your real name)....rocked it out. Amazing concert...funny guy....plus, he cut down George Bush....so you gotta love him!!

Unfortunately we didnt have too many rowdy neighbors sitting with us. The couple to the right took off after they knew who we were??? The foresome in front of us, did not clap, sing, stand or shake it up....(WTF???)....and the two behind us went to find a quiet romantic spot????

Or...maybe they left us because we took about 117 self portraits....!!! There are a few below.

Shout out to our sitter....SHE ROCKS!! Plus, now I got to set her up......need to have my electrician come back!!! Thanks for letting us have a night out Heebs!!

Monday update

I dont even know where the hell monday went. But its gone apparently.

I was at work all day...busy busy. DH got the truck and car looked at....tuned the truck up and she's running super. Car...will have to wait....but its running good now that its not sixty below.

So....I think I have him conviced that maybe we can wait until summer to purchase my Highlander.

oh...yeah .....DH doesnt have to go on his training until fall!!! Good...now we know its coming and we can save save save....sounds like us, doesnt it?

sleepover....almost!!!

Yeah!! The boys left sunday after their hockey game for a sleepover at a friends (their coaches son). So, I cast my "to do lists" aside and did absolutely F.A. really. Read some old mags, finished my novel and watched terrible tv.

Then, I get a call about 9:30 pm....Rett has a "really bad" stomach ache. So...the boys come home. Looking like raccoons....and really really missing their mommy. You guessed it....no sore tummies (other than where he got shot with a puck)....I guess they havent had a sleepover for awhile....and they both told me that they wanted to be 10 before they did it again.

Not very often I get mushy ....but I got teary....it was nice to see them too.

Saturday/sunday...frigid.

I know everybody is complaining about this weather...and it has gone on long enough. I am really starting to get S.A.D. ....must have sun.

So...we had to head out bright and early to Maymont for a one day tourney....supposed to leave at 8. Damn truck wouldnt start. Apparently somebody didnt shut the door the whole way. dead battery.

DH didnt have any luck with the car either...he couldnt get home and was stuck in a hotel in Biggar. nice.

So...I only sent one kid with the coach, the other stayed home cause he had an Initiation game.

By that time...DH had limped home in the car (thanks to a mechanic shop that was opened)....and got the truck running. He also swore up and down we were going to buy a newer vehicle....something that starts with a 2 would be good.

After the youngests game (he played super and almost the whole game since we only had 2 spares)....we headed out to Maymont for the last game.

So...we got to see both Taggarts playing together....sometimes even on the same line...."the tag team" as they were called. Really good game and we ended up winning 3-2.

Today....DH has left for Biggar in the truck...and the f*@king car wouldnt go again....so the boys got picked up by the coach- again.

Tonight they are headed over to the same peoples house for a sleepover....thank goodness for friends.....with running vehicles....

crazy freakin weather...

Friday!! Yeah!!! Skipped outta work (again...poor boss is having a breakdown cause of me)...took the oldest to the city to play a game of hockey. Or was it because I wanted to go to Costco?? Either or....we made it....

Barely...the wind was howling pretty good...thanks to the Alberta Clipper moving in...but we made it. Went ridiculously crazy at Costco..then headed over to the jemini.

It was great to see so many family and friends...if only for a short time. Retzky got to play one game with his Atom team. They ended up losing, but I think our little man played quite well. Didnt shy away from the puck too terribly bad....and was pretty excited about a couple of his hits. ("MOM did you see me ROCK that guy?")

Too bad the visit was cut short. I was told not to hit the highway as they were really terrible and travel was not recommended. So...in my mind I was trying to figure out what to do with C-man and the dog....since DH wasnt having any luck getting home either. When I couldnt get my mind to work straight....we decided to give it a shot. I think I was heard saying "really...how bad could it be?"

So....away we went .....Retzky and I actually had a nice time just the two of us. No fighting....no lectures.....just hanging out. And the roads were just fine. The wind was crazy....but the roads were great.

Even though my inlaws wont answer the phone when I call....hint hint.....I AM SORRY....I promise I will drink wine at your new place....and you wont be able to get rid of me.....promise

Soo...been on this new recipe...meal planning kick lately...who knew?

The first two recipes were to die for. Super-de-duper and even the kids liked them...or at least ate them without gagging.

So, thought I would try another. This one from Rachel Rays webiste..."not so tuna casserole". Horrific. Awful. Both boys gagging....me, trying to force it down with a smile on.

In my infinite wisdom, I tell the boys that the more awful it tastes, the better it is for you, so EAT UP!!!

We could all be a hungry bunch for hockey practise...good thing the oldest will be on the ice...while I sneak to the canteen!!

in the planning stages...

Two little trips that we have been mulling about in our heads that are now in some planning stages. (By planning I mean...'how the hell are we going to pay for this?')

Disneyland or world...havent decided yet...but hoping to go next year sometime....We want to go when the kids are old enough to walk and travel long distances. But dont want to wait until they are too old and dont enjoy it (or travelling with their parents).

Second one...Louise's hubby is going to Vegas....so she needs to have a weekend with the girls.....must start thinking of ideas to get her into as much trouble as she would in Vegas........

I know...just about every post, right?

But I do have to say I loooovee our new home. It feels right. It feels like we are going to get old here. Last night, again. Deer right in our yard...I really have to get my camera out and leave it by the windows, so I can take a picture.

There has maybe been a handful of days that we havent spotted them. (usually when there is company over)...and today now we are having a bit of a snow/wind morning and the view of the river is breath taking.

Now...cant wait for spring.

Weekend is finally over...

...and whew we are exhausted. Everybody slept in....what a crazy filled weekend.

Retzky and C-man both played their games sunday morning and did really well. We were at the rink from 9-12 and definitely needed some time at home.

So....we had a little shin dig for the superbowl. More kids than adults...more booze than food....and it turned out great. The kids managed to stay outside to go sledding and build forts and really no big fights. (only one kid with an 8lb dumbell crashing into his head)....other than that...no major injuries.

Today is a day with nothing on the calendar (one of the 5 left)...and the kids and are are going to clean and order in. Thats the day.

Tomorrow...back to hockey - twice.

Weekend warriors

Now my calendar is down to 6 days with nothing on it....and it better stay that way!!! heeheeehee

Retzky had a game friday night and he was slated to be the goalie...C-man got to play as they were short players. Probably the best game I've seen C-man play in Novice. Unfortunately one of the roughest I've seen for his older brother. He let in 6 of the first 6 shots and they ended up losing 8-4. They desperately needed him to play out and score some goals for us. And I dont know if I've seen him play net that poorly...thinking too much....dont think we tell him....just react.

On the way home he said to me..pretty sheepishly..."that sucked mom...dont think I want to do that again"...relieved I told him that I was proud of him for trying something different, but that his strength was playing out and thats where his team needed him. I think he agreed...so maybe the goalie bug is gone?

Saturday am...C-man had his Timbits Jamboree...free waterbottles and jerseys....gym time playing soccer and ice time with a new coach. HE had a blast...should be pics coming shortly (i've said that a lot now...?)

Then in the afternoon the kids had friends over ALL day...which turned out to be pretty good since I got the house cleaned and ready for our Superbowl party today.
