Hockey

Oh yes, since its halfway through the season, I guess I can give an update as well.

Retzky is having a great year.  We have some amazing parents and the kids seem to get along real well.  The highlight for him this year is that he beat the team from my old hometown.  He has never beat them before.  This year they beat them twice.  And both games he played very well.  And, got to play in front of Grandma and Grandpa Tractor.  You could end the season right now and he would be a happy kid.  er - manchild.

Here is the link to his league.  He is in bantam this year.  http://www.hi-way14hockeyleague.ca

C-man has also been having a great year.  As a second year kid he is getting lots of ice time and they have won way more than they have lost.  I guess thats important to some.  His age doesnt have a league to play in, so they do a lot of exhibition games and tournaments.  So far they have won the gold in Regina, Martensville and lost the gold in Spruce Grove and our hometown tourney.  He has been asked for ID, and invited to a few camps.  Both kinda funny stories.  This weekend we are off to PA...

There you have it.....

What a difference one person can make

A few years ago DH and I made the agonizing decision to move C-man from french immersion to the public school system.  There were a lot of reasons for that decision.  One of the main reasons was his struggle with english - reading and comprehending it.  He did fabulously in french and math.  To our dismay, there were no teachers that felt he had a problem.  (he is a nice kid....doing just fine)  No testing was ever done and for three years they said it would get better.  (Not sure how, since they didnt spend a spec of time with him).

Last year was his first year in english public school.  Although he had a good teacher last year, we were still worried (and she didnt seem to be).  This year, again, we brought it to the teachers attention and same response - he's fine.  (Actually what she really said was "I have a very average class this year and he is no worse than the rest of his class"  Are you kidding me?)

After half the year, I finally decided to take the matter into my own hands and got ahold of our brand new school principal.  In one word - amazing.  I wrote the email to her on tuesday of last week and as she was home with the flu she emailed me back from home later that evening.  By friday we had a plan.

Today, she had C-man tested by an evaluator from the head office.  Within hours she called me back, and we had a plan in place.  WOW.  I have never had that kind of response from anyone else.  She is a real EDUCATOR and I can see now why she has the position she does.  The testing showed some definite areas of weakness, but nothing a little hard work shouldnt overcome.

She has flagged his file and will be monitoring his progress to make sure its nothing more serious.  But, finally - someone took me seriously! And it feels good.  She praised me for taking an active role in his education and I've never felt more secure in having my worries validated.  Thanks goodness for women and men who love what they do for a living.

Its the little things...

Its the little things in our life that get us pretty excited.  For me, its seeing DH find a pair of shoes that fit his size 15's, or a HAT that fits his big, beautiful melon.  In all the years we have known each other, they have been few and far between.  Almost all black.  So, this past week when he found another hat that fit all those brains - he bought it.  The 3 of us were so excited that we took a picture. Ok, it might have been an excuse to take a pic of my beautiful men.  (BTW Retzky has shot up to 5'10" and 120.) C-man isnt too far behind!

Whats a girl to do?

Its the first "night off" we have had in awhile.  I will try not to exaggerate - but it feels like 179 days - at LEAST.  So, what did we do?

Heres what we had planned.  A "real" sit down supper (check.  roast chicken, brown rice with mushrooms, a nice green salad and cucumbers).  A "real" workout.  (not checked.  Instead I got mesmerized by the L.A. interview....and I feel almost as if I've had a good workout).  A shite-load of tackling my "real" laundry pile (half checked - see previous....stupid Oprah interviews...lol)

The boys managed to drive each other crazy with purple nurple wars.  Yep.  Thats the best they could come up with - especially with the nasty weather going on right now.  (first freezing rain, then a whack of snow).

Pretty lame for a night off.  Now, I'm off to finish my book and crawl into bed.  Might as well make this a complete lazy night.

This weekend - only has 2 hockey games and 3 reffing gigs on the sched.  But, we all know that can change with one phone call......That reminds me....going to take the phone off the hook before bed.

Nighty night....

Remember Us?

Hello!!  I think I'm staging a comeback!  Now that our office has been moved upstairs (and Retzky downstairs), I'm going to give this blog another good college try!!

DH's amazing cousin came out and took some family pix for us this fall.  This is just a few of them.  She did a fantastic job- escpecially with our crazy schedule.  She worked around the railway calls and made it up for a visit.  I wont be posting them all (especially the one with our attempt at jumping up - the 3 boys looked good....me...well.  If you want to view that one, it'll cost ya!

Welcome

Hello! Welcome to our diary. Little snippets from our day ....here in Southtown. Enjoy.
